On our trip to Paris, we stayed in the 14th Arrondissement, close to the Porte d’Orléans metro stop. It wound up working out really well. There were restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores nearby. We wound up stopping by the Carrefour market many times to get bottles of wine, cheese, sandwiches, and these cookies I LOVED that were covered on one side in chocolate. One evening we took a bottle of wine and sandwiches to the nearby park and ate and drank while watching French children play. We also walked to the Boulevard Périphérique, which fascinates me. It’s basically the highway that surrounds the central part of Paris, drawing a line between the central city and the suburbs. It was built over the old Thiers city walls that used to surround Paris that were demolished in the 1920s.
Below are some photos taken around the area we stayed in:
One of my favorite nights in Paris, we wound up heading up to the area of Montmartre (where a lot of Amelie was filmed)! We went up the steps of Sacre Coeur and sat down on the steps with a crowd of people, looking out over Paris, and were pleasantly surprised to find a band playing from Mexico City. We sat for awhile, enjoying the night as the sun dipped lower in the sky, drinking Heinekens that we got for cheap after haggling with the vendor.
Why is it that the closer to fall it gets, the crazier everything seems to become? I’ve been spending a lot of time lately working on doing the photography for another book that will be coming out next year. It’s been so much fun, and I’ve been working with fantastic people, but it also means the amount of time to blog and work on other projects has become really tiny.
But.. I haven’t posted anything in awhile, and I still have so many Europe photos to share, so here is a smattering of more Paris photos.
