Sweets from Retro Bizzaro

It wasn’t too long ago that I discovered a business here in Austin I was dying to shoot photos for. Retro Bizzaro. And then.. it seemed they were everywhere.. so active on Twitter, showcasing their goods at many of the local farmer’s markets, and the Bacon Takedown at SXSW. And I had the pleasure of meeting Michael and Amanda Joyner and their two adorable kids when I picked up some treats from them to photograph. And seeing the sweets? I was drooling. Many pictured below are chocolate, coffee and cinnamon based, but when I talked to Mike and Amanda a few weeks ago they mentioned that soon there would be more spring flavors. I can’t wait to pick up some of those to photograph.

I teamed up with Kathy Phan for styling, and we got to work setting up shots, ironing fabrics, figuring out lighting, and then.. shooting the sweets and taking turns taking bites out of them! I mean, isn’t that one of the best parts of food photography? Getting to eat the delicious food? I say yes.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the shoot–
