Perla’s 01.26.
When a co-worker suggested a couple of weeks ago that several of us should go to Perla’s, his treat, I thought he was joking. He insisted he was serious. I still never believed it would happen. I mean, this is Perla’s.. the restaurant I heard has fantastic seafood and my boyfriend read in Esquire was one of the Best New Restaurants in America. Why would this guy treat myself and another co-worker to Perla’s?
And then he mentioned it again yesterday. And so the three of us made plans to go on Tuesday. I still wasn’t sure this would actually happen. Until at 11:55am when he said something along the lines of “I’m starving, let’s go.” And so we went.
We drove to South Congress and parked in the neighborhood behind Perla’s. The weather was wonderful, so we sat outside on the deck. A fantastic choice. The canvas chairs and striped umbrellas made sitting on the deck seem like an escape. Far far away from the office.
And then we looked at the menu. Okay, so Perla’s is apparently great for Oysters. I’ve never had oysters before. Especially raw. But I was ready to try. We ordered three different kinds of oysters. All East Coast. One from Maine, one Massachusetts, one from Prince Edward Island. And might I say.. “mmmmmmm.” I think the ones from Massachusetts were my favorite. They were the most briny and salty. And oh how I wish I remembered the names of them so I could tell you.
After the three of us finished our delicious plate of 24 oysters, we got our regular food. I had Rainbow Trout with salad and a little stuffed tomato. I don’t even like tomatoes, and I loved this. My co-workers ordered the Lobster Roll and Ahi Tuna sandwich. Those looked delicious and of course they both loved their food.
To sum it up: I think I may now owe this co-worker my first born or something, but whatever.. it was worth it.
