2009 – Year in Review (part two) 12.31.

For part one – look here! 2009 – Year in Review (part one)

———–

June brought Seattle some nice weather and the start of our neighborhood farmer’s market on Queen Anne. We also started discussing leaving the Pacific Northwest and moving somewhere else, so we wanted to soak up as much of the area while we still lived there. We went to the Fremont Solstice parade, where a bunch of people paint their naked bodies and then ride around on bikes or roller blades. We also took a little day trip down to Astoria, Oregon (where the Goonies takes place/was filmed!) and Cannon Beach for a lovely afternoon of laying on the sand and enjoying the sound of the waves while wearing jeans and long-sleeved shirts.

At the beginning of July, it finally got hot! And Josh and I celebrated the 4th of July at Gasworks Park watching the most amazing fireworks show I have ever seen, right above Lake Union. We laid out in the sun all day on a blanket, saving our spot. Well worth it.

Mid-July, my parents came up to visit Seattle and Josh and I took them everywhere we could think of. Kerry Park, Seattle Center, Downtown Library, Pike Place Market, Bainbridge Island, Washington Park Arboretum and Volunteer Park, Capitol Hill, Farmer’s Market, Ballard Locks, and Kite Hill in Gasworks Park. WOW. We saw a lot of the city that week.

Mom and Dad

Towards the end of July, Josh and I took at trip up to Vancouver, BC. On the first day we walked around Gastown, downtown, and by the waterfront to watch a gorgeous orange sunset. The second day we were there, we headed to Stanley Park in the morning for a relaxing walk, had a nice afternoon lunch in Yaletown, and walked over to Granville Island which was gorgeous. As the sky started getting darker, we knew we should head back to our hotel. That night we pulled up the sofa in our hotel in front of the window and watched an amazing lightning storm.

After we got back from Vancouver, we had record-breaking heat in Seattle. Over 100 degrees, and our house with its flat roof and no air conditioning got sooo hot. It made me jealous of Texans with their air conditioners. I would wet towels to put around my neck to try to cool off. We would walk to the store and get popsicles and sit on our back porch in the shade eating them. That week.. I prayed for air conditioned buses and was always so sad when I got on a hot, sticky, smelly one. I’d take three showers each day. Sooo hot.

And that brings us to August and the rest of the year.. coming up in part three.
