Oh, I LOVE the Cliff House. It's right off of Ocean Beach, a little north of where Golden Gate Park meets the ocean.

According to Wikipedia... "The Giant Camera obscura was built in 1948-49 as part of the Playland at the Beach amusement area. It was moved to a location next to the Cliff House when Playland closed and is still present in the Cliff House area"

It was closed when I was there, but.. here's more info - http://sanfrancisco.about.com/od/environmentnature/p/sfcameraobscura.htm

I hadn't heard of this place before. It is stunning!

What is that thing in the second to last photo labeled "giant camera"? Is it what it says it is? If so, what is its purpose?
